Wempe expands further
Hellmut Wempe opened new shops in Lübeck, Bremen, Berlin and Hanover during the 1960s.Jewellery was again very much in demand. Richard Burton gave Liz Taylor, whom he married twice, the “Taylor-Burton Diamond”, which was then worth about .1 million, the 33-carat “Krupp Diamond” and the legendary “Peregrina Pearl”.The 1960s also marked the beginning of Hellmut Wempe’s plans to expand beyond Germany’s borders. But first, he won the right to market the exclusive Rolex watch brand in Germany.
